Zagato Atelier has announced the launch of the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa Concours d’Elegance Villa d’Este XII. Corsa Design TZ3 is not a drill. Not only drawing on 90 years of collaboration between the two brands, not only in Milan shared between Alfa Romeo and Zagato. Corsa TZ3 is a race car, in honor of 100 years of the race and victory in the 20th century as a whole.

The Evoque will go on sale next Summer once it has bowed at the Paris motorshow on the 30th October. The greenest Evoque will emit no more than 130g/km of CO2. 'The two-wheel-drive option will give customers the chance to benefit from lower entry-level pricing, plus CO2 and fuel-economy efficiencies,' said Popham. However, Land Rover has ditched its plans for a hybrid variant of the Evoque. Land Rover is working on hybrid systems and its first model to receive the system will be the next Range Rover in 2013.

The Evoque stays accurate to the LRX concept that was first shown two years ago. According to Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, it is 'a modern and relevant execution of the familiar Range Rover design'.

Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham, said, ‘Customers can be confident that the new car will be premium, luxurious and just as special as the other Range Rover models. Its sporting looks and unique qualities will open the brand to a new group of customers who might not have considered a Range Rover before.’

Although no outsiders of Land Rover know what the car looked like before its launch, regardless of what it would cost, Land Rover says it has already taken deposits from buyers, and that it has received around 20,000 'expressions of interest' in the Evoque.

No interior photos have been revealed yet, but potential customers can expect the kind of premium and luxurious materials already found in other Range Rover models, according to the firm. Former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham is now a creative design executive, and will be designing the interior of the Evoque. She described the new Range Rover as 'absolutely stunning' and that the chance to join forces on the design was 'an incredible opportunity'.

Land Rover and Range Rover design director Gerry McGovern said of Victoria Beckham: 'She knows a lot about fashion and a lot about trends, a lot about luxury products. I believe this appointment adds a new dimension to my design team as we continue to design products to appeal to a wider audience.'

"The all-new Land Rover Range Rover Evoque will be built at our multi-award winning plant in Halewood, creating 1,000 new jobs in the Merseyside area, a fantastic boost to the UK economy. The Halewood plant has a reputation for excellence and quality and is recognised throughout the industry as a leader in Lean Manufacturing.

"The all-new Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a true global car and will be sold in over 160 countries. It was important to give the car a name that was instantly recognisable through language and cultural boundaries throughout the world. We wanted to create a new name which was innovative and different. A name which implies exclusivity and arouses emotions. Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is cosmopolitan and cross-continental, sophisticated and matches the car's urban elegance," he added.

Prices are expected to start at £35,000 for the 2WD and £40,000 for the 4WD. This would mean that the Evoque is at least £10,000 cheaper than the larger Range Rover Sport. While the Evoque is classed as a coupe, a more practical 5dr will join the range at a later date.

The 2011 McLaren MP4-12C has many fresh features that will excite aficionados of the brand. Every part of the sports car is manufactured and designed by the car company itself. With all these features and design ingenuity, it is clear that the 2011 McLaren MP4-12C has the makings of a classic.

The chassis is now made using a Carbon MonoCell called 12C MonoCell. The structure is more slender than former models, which in turn allows the car to be maneuvered and positioned easier on the road. Lightness is integrated into the design of the car. This can be seen in various parts all over the car. The dihedral design uses just one hinge and allows for full access even in the tightest of spaces. Functionality is also prevalent throughout the interior. All switches and buttons are mounted within reach of the driver and are grouped according to application. The most important information is presented to the driver in the binnacle behind the steering wheel, which features a very prominent, tachometer. Additional info is presented in a screen mounted on the floating centre console. The grip of the steering wheel is modelled after grips of the wheels used by McLaren’s World Championship winning Formula 1 drivers.

All the parts of the McLaren MP4-12C are bespoke and unique to this car. Everything from the engine right down to the tailor-made switches and buttons is pure McLaren: nothing has come from another manufacturer’s parts bin.

Cadillac has been a leading luxury auto brand since 1902. In recent years, Cadillac has engineered an historic renaissance led by artful engineering and global expansion. The show car features fine-grain black leather- trimmed Recaro seats with Alcantara seat inserts. The seat inserts are divided in the center and accented with dark gray stitching, while the V-series logo is laser etched into the seatbacks. Obsidian Black accents grace the center stack, console, steering wheel and door panels.
The interior of the CTS-V Sport Wagon is shared with the sedan, including streamlined instrumentation, LED lighting and hand-cut-and-sewn accents.

Using technology developed by Toyota’s F1, Lexus was created the Future Sports Car that marks an important moment in both the history of Lexus and the development of the supercar. PASM Porsche Active Suspension Management is available as an option on the 911 Carrera and comes as standard on the 911 Carrera S. PASM combines two suspensions in one, a sporting and comfortable set-up for long distances and a very dynamic configuration for performance driving. Compared with the standard suspension of the Carrera, PASM suspension lowers the entire car by 10 millimetres or 0.39". The normal set-up provides a more comfortable damper setting changing gradually to a sporting mode as soon as the driver adopts a more dynamic style of motoring. Particularly on long trips on the motorway the car's occupants will enjoy a far higher standard of comfort, PASM absorbing minor and medium bumps on the surface much better and more smoothly than the standard suspension. By contrast, the sports set-up activates a harder damper control map for a very agile and dynamic style of motoring, the features and qualities thus provided being quite comparable to those of an all-out sports suspension. Ferrari unveiled the new F430 to the public at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2004 and the F430 Spider in Geneva Motor Show in spring 2005 - both cars are said to be sold out until 2007. Ferrari’s presence at the Paris Mondial de l’Automobile 2004 came at an important moment for the company in what has been an extraordinary year in terms of sporting achievements. The important news was that Ferrari won the Formula 1 Constructors’ World title for the sixth consecutive year and the Formula 1 Drivers’ World title for the fifth consecutive year, courtesy of Ferrari racing driver Michael Schumacher. Ferrari has achieved these results thanks to its enormous, ongoing commitment to R&D, allowing continuous technological transfer from Formula 1 to road cars. And this technological innovations provide another leap forward with the new F430, setting new benchmarks in the sports car industry.

The Ferrari F430 signals the arrival of a brand new generation of Ferrari 8-cylinder models. This new car takes Ferrari’s extraordinary achievements with aluminium technology, begun with the 360 Modena predecessor, to a whole new level, and offers a series of extremely significant innovations directly derived from the Ferrari Formula 1 single-seaters. Two of these innovations are world firsts for production cars: the electronic differential (E-Diff) and the steering wheel-mounted switch (better known to the Formula 1 Scuderia’s drivers as “manettino”), which manages the integrated systems governing vehicle dynamics for 5 different driving styles from "ice" to "race". The Bentley has always been a driver car, whereas the Rolls always had the image of a chauffeur-driven car.

Bentley, which won the Luxury Briefing Award for Excellence in autumn 2003, has done well under new chairman, Franz-Josef Paefgen who has been with the company since April 2002. Having been the chairman of Audi and the driving force behind the performance of Audi in recent years, he was also influential in making Audi win Le Mans in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Bentley is thriving now under the guidance of Paefgen with his racing experience and as he puts quality first, the market launch of the Bentley Continental GT was delayed to spring 2004. However, it looks like this delay will have been worthwhile as the top speed of 198 mph (318 km/h) is pushing the Continental GT into the stratosphere of much more expensive cars. The heart of the Continental GT is its 5998 cc, four camshaft, 48-valve, twin turbocharged W12 engine. It can now be revealed that its power output, hitherto quoted as 'in excess of 500 bhp', is in fact 560 bhp (560 PS or 411 kW) at 6100 rpm. Maximum torque is 650 Nm (479 lb ft) which may sound an impressive enough number in isolation but its true significance only becomes apparent when you learn that it is generated at just 1600 rpm. Typically, a performance car engine will force the driver to wait until it is spinning at between 3-5000 rpm before it will deliver maximum thrust. No other car in production makes its torque so instantly accessible and this is important as Bentley always meant torque, since 1919.

And not many gearboxes are capable of handling the extraordinary torque loadings that the Continental GT engine is able to produce and none so far fitted to a luxury coupé has had the benefit of six gears. The new ZF gearbox is the most advanced of its kind in the world, offering not only six ratios but also the ability to lock up its torque converter in every gear, providing effectively manual gear changes via either the gear lever or steering wheel paddles. The all-wheel drive system employs a central Torsen (TORque SENsing) differential and a free differential on each of the front and rear axles. The front and centre differentials have individual cooling radiators. Bentley's engineers decided to divide the drive equally between the front and rear axles, giving a conventional 50:50 torque split. This is the combination that was found to be best at providing not simply the safety demanded of a car with this performance potential, but also the most favourable handling response. This is in combination with a self-levelling air suspension, which adapts to weight, surface and speed: the suspension is programmed to lower the Continental GT by 15 mm, a bit more than half an inch, at 100 mph (161 km/h).

Aptera is banking on the amendment of the Department of Energy Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program so that its Aptera 2e can finally be eligible for support from the low interest program. The problem is that since the Aptera 2e is a three-wheeler then it is considered a motorcycle which is exempted from the safety regulations provided by the United States for cars and trucks.

Aptera begs to disagree because this three-wheeler has safety features built into its design and it is in fact being crash tested using automobile standards. The Aptera 2e is indeed classified as a motorcycle but it us actually a car built like a plane—or is that vice versa? It is confusing but the truth is, the Aptera 2e really looks like it came out straight from the Star Trek movie.

With funding from Google, the Aptera 2e will start production by October this year and is expected to be on sale before the year ends—exclusively for California residents only. There are however plans to make it available nationwide in the next years. Don’t look now but this ambitious car-plane will have a spin-off —namely a 2h gas-electric hybrid, a four-eat design and a gas-engine. The Aptera 2e will have an electric motor with a torque of 60 pound-feet.

No longer a Golf with a growth, the Jetta is larger, sleeker and in several senses of the word, cheaper, than the car it replaces. VW intended this car to be a North American success from the outset, and so far, the signs are encouraging -- Jetta sales are surging at the end of 2010.

he new Jetta represents a bit of a flashback for VW. The car not only returns to some past technology, but also returns to the value based feel that VW moved away from over that past 18 years, starting with the MK3 cars in 1993. If you took this car back to 1992 and gave it to a VW fan from that time period, they'd probably feel right at home. That isn't to say the 2011 Jetta feels outdated; it just feels like a direct descendant of one of those cars as opposed to a continuation of the softer, more isolated, outgoing MK5 Jetta.

The interior of the new Jetta has been one of the sticking points for most VW enthusiasts and automotive media alike. While the new car features the comfort and ergonomics of past Jettas, it falls down some in other areas. Like many of its rivals, the new Jetta now has a hard plastic dash, with matching hard plastic door panels. Fervent VW fans will likely find the changes unappealing, but the new buyers the brand is looking to attract will probably never notice.

The new Jetta's sheetmetal has also suffered from its share of criticism, a design penned under the direction of VW Group design chief Walter de' Silva. His signature look first achieved mainstream notoriety in 2004 on the Audi A6 and has included such recent design icons as the Audi A5, R8, and TT as well as the Passat CC and Scirocco to name a few. While the base model looks a little lackluster with 15-inch wheel covers and black side mirrors, the higher spec models with 17-inch wheels and chrome trim have a classy if understated look.

These are the first images of Peugeot's RCZ sports car due to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September. First unveiled as a concept two years ago, the production model's unique shape houses some remarkable technology. F'rinstance, an active rear spoiler, a Twin-Scroll turbocharger, direct petrol injection, variable valve lift and variable valve timing, Hill Assist to facilitate maneuvers on steep gradients, an intelligent traction control system (ASR), electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) and emergency brake assist (EBA). There's also a concept RCZ Hybrid4 which uses a 120 kW 2.0-liter HDi FAP diesel engine at the front and a 27 kW electric motor at the rear to deliver 70 mpg.

Three engines will initially find a place under the aluminum bonnet of the RCZ—all complying with the Euro 5 emissions standard.

A new 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine has been developed for the RCZ, producing maximum power of 147 kW at 5800 rpm and maximum torque of 255 Nm at 1700 rpm (or 275 with overboost).

The RCZ benefits from dynamic acceleration—80 to 120 kph in 6.5 seconds in fifth gear, and 0 to 100 kph in 7.6 seconds—while fuel consumption does not exceed 7.1 liters/100 km in the combined cycle (less than 165 g/km of CO2).

This 4-cylinder engine combines all of the most recent technology to create a world first: a Twin-Scroll turbocharger for performance and instant response at very low engine speeds, direct petrol injection, and variable valve lift coupled with variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts (VTi technology), for reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The RCZ will also be available with Peugeot's HDi FAP technology via a 2.0-liter engine developing maximum power of 120 kW at 3750 rpm and generous maximum torque of 340 Nm at 2000 rpm.

To obtain this level of performance it has a new generation ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System) combustion chamber, a variable-geometry low-inertia turbocharger, a high-pressure pump allowing a pressure of 2000 bar in the common rail and solenoid injectors with eight apertures. 

This engine offers wide scope for driving enjoyment, despite limiting fuel consumption to just 5.4 liters/100 km in the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

A second petrol engine is available in the form of a 1.6-liter turbocharged direct-injection unit that achieves 240 Nm from 1400 rpm and 115 kW at 5800 rpm.

It offers fuel consumption of 6.9 liters/100 km and 159 g/km of CO2 with a manual gearbox. The RCZ benefits fundamentally from a highly efficient suspension set-up developed from the existing 308 range (McPherson type front suspension and rear torsion beam).

In addition, the car's ride height and center of gravity have been lowered by 20 mm and 40 mm respectively, while the RCZ is wider (+ 30 mm) with wider front and rear tracks (+ 54 mm and + 72 mm).

The suspension and dampers have been adapted accordingly and, with the addition of wider tires on 18 or 19-inch wheels, the end result is road-holding of the very highest order.

On models featuring the 147 kW engine, the front axle incorporates a special lower anti-roll bar to make the car even more responsive and agile.

Braking, meanwhile, is powerful and durable and is assured by ventilated discs with a diameter of 302 mm and a thickness of 26 mm. The 147 kW model receives discs of 340x30mm.

All models are equipped with rear brake discs with a diameter of 290x12 mm.

To facilitate maneuvers on steep gradients, all versions of the RCZ come with Hill Assist. This function is coupled as standard with ESP which, except on versions with an automatic gearbox, includes an intelligent traction control system (ASR), dynamic stability control (DSC), electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) and emergency brake assist (EBA).

The combination of a 0.337 coefficient of drag and weight at just over 1300 kg, allows the car to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in under five seconds, with a claimed top speed of 261 km/h. Because it aims to reach a different type of buyer from the almostracecar like Elise and Exige models, Evora features a more refined cabin with elegant trim and extensive equipment list with contemporary features such as touch screen multimedia centre, extensive connectivity for mobile phones and portable audio devices, and power mirrors. Access to the interior is also reportedly easier than with the smaller sports cars, with wider, taller door openings, narrower sills and a higher seating position that will reportedly accommodate two 99 percentile males (six foot five). Future derivatives of the car are planned including, among others, a convertible model. Just 2,000 Evoras are planned for annual production on a dedicated assembly line in Hethel, England.

Exterior and Interior

Designed by Pininfarina, the 458 Italia features compact and aerodynamic lines. There is a single opening for the front grille and side air intakes, with aerodynamic sections and profiles designed to direct air to the coolant radiators and the new flat underbody. The nose also sports small aeroelastic winglets which generate downforce. The car’s rear is defined by triple exhaust tail pipes, a styling cue that recalls the legendary F40.

The Engine

The Ferrari 458 Italia is powered by a 4,499 cc V8 engine that delivers a total of 570 HP at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 540 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine delivers an outstanding power output of 127 HP/liter and 120 Nm/liter. All this while delivering only 307 g/km of CO2 and a fuel consumption of just 13.3 l/100 km.

The engine is mated to a F1 dual-clutch gearbox and sprints the sports car from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.4 seconds while top speed goes up to an impressive 201 mph.

The Competition

The 458 Italia takes on models like the Audi R8, Aston Martin DBS, and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. While the R8 is no doubt the cheapest one, the 458 Italia features a fresher design, and it comes with the glorious Ferrari name.

2011 Camaro SS X and Corvette Z06X

Dodge may be having all the fun crafting race-ready versions of its Viper, but the designers and enthusiasts employed at General Motors want to remind you they’re not incapable of building some serious race machinery themselves. Witness the Chevrolet Corvette Z06X and Camaro SS X concepts: built in partnership with Pratt & Miller for the 2010 SEMA show, these two show stoppers are GM’s vision of the ultimate track machines.

It’s hard to find fault with the basic premise of a Corvette Z06, but designers simply took the best of the production car while adding features to help it ’round a road course. The Z06X concept is built upon a production 2011 Z06 fitted with both the vaulted Z07 performance package and the CFZ Carbon Fiber option group.

From there, GM added a low-restriction air intake, along with a heavy-duty radiator and an improved cooling system. Engineers also tinkered with the suspension setup, adding mono-ball control arm bushings, adjustable stabilizer bars, and coil-over struts with adjustable camber plates. Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors are part of the stock Z07 package, but lightweight racing wheels, finished in a dark hue and capped with Michelin racing rubber, are unique to the Z06X.

That black finish ties well with the Z06X’s exterior design. Although all body parts are essentially stock, GM painted the car in a Icy White Metallic color, adding a black racing stripe and rear fascia, along with red accents. Inside, the Z06X’s interior is gutted of interior trim and insulation, allowing the installation of an SCCA-approved roll cage, fire suppression system, a racing seat for the driver, and a five-point harness. To help further strip the car of weight, the rear hatch glass has been replaced with a custom polycarbonate window.

2011 Camaro SS X Concept
Chevrolet’s Camaro SS X concept abides by the same formula applied to the Z06X, although a few extra modifications were required to help turn the bulky muscle machine into a satisfying road racer.

Outside, the SS X shares the Z06X’s design theme, sporting the same black-on-white paint scheme as its fiberglass-bodied relative. In a move to strip weight, GM replaced the hood, fenders, doors, and deck lid with panels fabricated from carbon fiber. For aerodynamic purposes, a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels, and adjustable rear wing were also added to the package.

Underhood, the SS X retains the Camaro’s stock 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, although it’s been massaged with a new camshaft, revised cylinder heads, and a dry-sump oil system. The six-speed transmission is stock Getrag fare, although it is fitted with a twin-disc clutch raided from the Corvette ZR1 parts bin. 20-inch wheels and racing tires are added, and are stopped courtesy of an upgraded four-wheel-brake system, which includes six-piston front calipers, four-piston rear calipers, and slotted rotors at each corner.

As is the case with the Z06X, the Camaro SS X’s interior isn’t exactly conducive for commuting. Carpeting, insulation, interior trim, and other parts — including the rear seat — have been gutted to shave weight and make room for some serious racing hardware. An SCCA-spec roll cage, window net, race seat, and five-point harness are added, along with racing pedals, a fire suppression system, and fuel cell.

The company’s RACE Bi-Compressor engine upgrade offers 696-hp with a maximum torque of 503 lb-ft. That allows the open-top Scuderia Spider 16 M to go from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph. The upgrade gives subtle visual enhancements as well, but we’re really intrigued by the adjustable hydraulic lift, which enables you to raise the front by 40 millimeters. The front axle goes back to a normal position at a second push of the button or automatically once the car reaches a speed of 49 mph.

Ferrari’s finally unveiled the replacement for the legendary F430. It’s inspired a generation and will truly be missed. The 2011 458 Italia is a beauty, and makes saying goodbye to the F430 a little easier. Although it’s going to make its world premiere in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show, egmCarTech‘s given us all the details (inside and out) for Ferrari’s latest stallion. Power comes from a 4.5L V8, which is the first Ferrari direct-injection engine to be mid-rear mounted. It delivers a total of 570-hp at 9,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm – over 80 percent of which is available from 3,250 rpm. Mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox, 0 to 62 mph comes in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of over 202 mph.

Ferrari hasn’t released any interior shots of the 458 Italia but Omar and company from egmCarTech did manage to catch a glimpse of it during a flash video over at the new 458 Italia site.

Oakley Design Ferrari 458 Italia

Tuning firms have made a business out of taking supercars and making them even more… super. Take UK-based Oakley Design and their rendition of the Ferrari 458 Italia. They’ve upped some of the 570-hp monster’s aerodynamic and visual aspects while also inserting a remapped engine computer. The car’s horsepower output is increased to 618 while 0-60 time is improved by .4 seconds to 3 seconds flat. Wow.

Oakley Design will be delivering a limited run of only five individually-numbered units. Look for it to be on display at SEMA 2010 in Las Vegas this month.

2011 Audi R8 Spyder will launch with V10 only

It's been all but confirmed by Audi that the R8 Spyder is due to debut alongside the new A5 Sportback at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, but according to two reports from Car and Driver, there will be one less vehicle on the show stand in Germany and only one engine available in the drop-top supercar.

The 2011 Audi R8 Spyder will reportedly be available with the 525 hp, 5.2-liter V10 at launch -- meaning no V8 -- with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional R-tronic automated transmission. The 420 hp, 4.2-liter V8 currently fitted to the standard R8 could be added later, but Audi seems to favor sticking with the V10 until the R8's replacement arrives a few years down the road.

Additionally, it was widely reported that the 2011 Audi A8 would be unveiled in Frankfurt, but C&D says that the launch has been pushed back sometime after the LA Auto Show in December. Apparently, the reason for the delay is two-fold: Audi doesn't want to risk quelling sales of the current A8 in some of its most important markets (China, Europe and the U.S.) and the automaker is (wisely) worried that the unveiling could be overlooked at a large auto show where too many models are vying for attention. As such, the A8 could be shown initially at a private event in Florida later this year, with the first public exhibition being the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Ford has been unusually un-forthcoming about the new 2102 BOSS302S track version of the BOSS 302. Much akin to the Mustang Challenge FR-500S race cars, the BOSS 302R is a non-street legal bare bones racer that is one step below the Grand-Am spec BOSS 302R.

Like the FR-500 series cars, the BOSS 302S will be available “over the counter” from your local Ford Racing Dealer. The car will be built at the Flat Rock assembly plant along side the other BOSS 302s but will have a lighter body structure lacking sealers, glues, and sound deadening.

Following the Mustang Boss 302R track car, and the road-going Mustang Boss 302, now comes the Boss 302S racer. This multi-purpose race car has been developed by Ford Racing to provide enthusiasts with an affordable way to road race. Nissan Motor India has rolled out the diesel variant of its small car Nissan Micra, powered with a 1.5 litre diesel engine, in Ahmedabad.

Priced between INR0.57m and INR0.62m, the Diesel-powered 'Nissan Micra' will be available in two variants of XV and XV (premium).

Buoyed by the success of its hatchback Micra, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) on Friday said it will launch a sedan by the end of next year.

The model is priced between Rs 5.59 lakh and Rs 6.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Bookings for the diesel variant have already started.

The diesel version of' Nissan Micra' is powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine and is available in two variants with five- speed manual transmission. The Nissan sedan will compete with the Volkswagen Vento and the Honda City and will be produced in Nissan- Renault's Chennai plant.

Ford Motor Co. continues the global rollout of the new Ford Focus with production for Europe starting today.
The compact car, as a sedan and five-door hatchback, has already begun early production for North America at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant.
Western European markets will source their cars from Ford's Saarlouis Assembly Plant in Germany, which will make the sedan, hatch and wagon. "Saarlouis is proud to have been the lead plant for Ford Focus production in Europe since the first model was launched in 1998."
Ford has sold more than 10 million Ford Focuses globally.
The punchy Focus ST variant won't enter production in Germany until early 2012, however.

The final piece in Ford's global puzzle for the Focus will be production at new plants in Chongqing, China, and Rayong, Thailand. That will complete the five-plant, three-continent, 120-market roll-out of the Focus, making it one of the most truly "global" cars on the market.
Though the standard Focus sedan and hatch will no doubt be interesting cars, we're waiting for the hot-hatch ST, so we still have a long year's wait ahead of us.
It's about time for the new global 2012 Ford Focus to hit the streets, and Germany has entered production to fill European demand.
The Saarlouis plant in the southwest German region of Saarland will build the Focus sedan, hatchback (ST hot hatch joins the line in early 2012), and wagon exclusively for the European market. To help reach those numbers, Ford extended permanent offers to 500 temporary contract workers.

"This is an important day for Ford, the Saarland and for Germany," said Ken Macfarlane, Ford of Europe's VP of manufacturing. Saarlouis, also home to the Kuga, joins Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant located in Wayne as the current hubs for the 2012 Ford Focus.
Production of the" 2012 Ford Focus" has started in Germany ahead of the vehicle’s showroom debut early next year.
Ford invested 300 million euros ($403 million) in modernising the Saarlouis Assembly Plant for Focus production, and the project has created 500 new jobs. The plant also manufacturers the Ford Kuga compact SUV.

Costing the same as a standard MKZ, the 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid gets significantly better fuel economy than its gasoline-only equivalent. The bad: The MKZ Hybrid's driving quality differs little from the Ford Fusion Hybrid. The bottom line: With excellent fuel economy, a comfortable interior, and really excellent cabin tech, the "2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid" makes for a near perfect commuter car and general transportation.

With the same specs as the Fusion Hybrid, the 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid achieves 41 mpg in city EPA testing, an impressive number for a segment that barely tops 30 mpg.

Compared to the gas engine front-wheel-drive MKZ, the hybrid version gets about 15 mpg better fuel economy.

We couldn't help geeking out over the MKZ Hybrid's power train while driving it, thanks in large part to the instrument cluster display. Lincoln says the MKZ Hybrid can go up to 47 mph in electric mode. We easily kept the car running under electric power at speeds of just over 40 mph by feathering the throttle, using the power gauge on the display to show how much we could accelerate and stay in electric mode. The MKZ Hybrid takes off from a stop easily, and the electric motor and gas engine work together well. At 41 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, the MKZ Hybrid shows the typical hybrid penchant for low speed, stop and go driving.

the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid has been recognised with a design award by Global Green USA. The gasoline MKZ sedan delivers 18mpg.

“The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid represents a significant achievement by a car company to create the first hybrid luxury vehicle to get more than 40mpg in the city,” said Global Green president Matt Petersen.

Japanese auto major Honda Motor unveiled the prototype of its first small car – Honda Brio at the 27 th Bangkok Motor Show on Tuesday. Honda Brio will compete with other domestic small cars such as Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra.
“Increased local sourcing of components will be the key for success of Honda Brio in the domestic market,” Takashi Nagai, president and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), which is Honda's subsidiary in India, said. “At present, 10 per cent of total sales of Honda cars come from tier 2 and tier 3 markets. “At present, we were utilising around 65-70 per cent of the capacity and the rest would be utilised for manufacturing "Honda Brio",” Jnaneswar Sen, VP – sales and marketing, HSCI, said. The company at present manufactures models like Honda Jazz, Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda Accord and imports premium SUV Honda CRV from Japan.

Right on schedule, Audi has pulled the sheets off its next-generation Le Mans prototype. The company hasn't worked with a clamshell since 1999, and we're guessing is has more than a little to do with Peugeot's 2009 Le Mans win. Audi used a single-piece construction carbon fiber monocoque to keep weight down and increase stiffness, and those epic all-LED headlights are the first make their way to Le Mans.
While Audi is planning to campaign a total of three R18 racers at the 2011 Le Mans race this summer, the vehicle's first appearance will be at the six hours of Spa on April 24.
Previous Audi prototype racers, from the R8 to the most recent R15 TDI, have been open-cockpit affairs. But Audi is aiming for its tenth 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with a new direction, due in part to a significant reduction in engine displacement mandated for the race in 2011. A single-piece carbon fiber monocoque saves weight and improves stiffness, while new all-LED headlights are a first for an Audi race car. In daylight running mode, the headlights project a "1" to intimidate competitors and signify Audi's past victories.
Audi's new Le Mans LMP1 racecar will be a closed-cockpit model, like rival Peugeot's. The company's R18 debuted earlier today in Ingolstadt and is the key to Audi's bid for a 10th Le Mans 24 win.
Less powerful engines, according to new Le Mans rules, means the new car will rely more on aerodynamic efficiency, thus the importance of a roof. According to the press release, the LEDs of the daytime running lights form the shape of a "1," recalling Audi's historic brand logo.

The 2011 Nissan Versa 1.8 S and the 1.8 SL models are available in sedan and hatchback forms. ABS is standard on the 1.8 S. Traction control and Nissan’s Vehicle Dynamic Control are standard on 1.8 SL models, and optional on 1.8 S models. However, they remain unavailable in both 1.6 models.
Available as either a sedan or hatchback, the Nissan Versa boasts a great deal of cargo space – 13.8 cubic feet for the sedan and 16.9 cubic feet for the hatchback.
Leather upholstery is unavailable on all Versa models.
With its history of impressive car safety features, sharp interior features and decent engine specs, the Versa is a contender in the subcompact and economy car market. The MSRP on the "2011 Nissan Versa" ranges from $9,900 to $17,650.
Changes are light for the 2011 Nissan Versa: antilock brakes are now included with the upgraded 1.6 sedan trim, while the 1.8 S sedan gains a six-disc CD changer.
Cars at a certain bargain-basement price point used to be called penalty boxes. Like many subcompact cars, the Nissan Versa is available in four-door sedan and hatchback body styles and its most basic models offer little in the way of convenience features.

Every "Nissan Versa" comes standard with front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Antilock brakes are optional on the base car and standard on all other trim levels. In government crash tests, the Versa scored four out of five stars for all occupants in both front- and side-impact tests.
The 2011 Nissan Versa has a remarkably roomy cabin. Looks-wise, the car's interior is quite bland, but overall interior quality is high. The car's overstuffed front seats are comfortable during hour-long commutes, but support fades on longer drives.
The 2011 Nissan Versa ranks 26 out of 32 Affordable Small Cars. Just know that going from the base model to the next model up brings the Versa's price to just over $11,000. Also, if you're looking for a handy hatchback to zip around town in, the Versa's hatchback body style isn't available on the base model. While the Versa hatchback is a reviewer favorite, it starts at over $13,000.
While that means that the base hatch comes with more standard features than the base sedan, it also takes a significant chunk out of the Versa's value equation.
The Nissan Versa is largely unchanged for 2011. Antilock brakes are now standard on the Versa 1.6 sedan, but not the 1.6 BASE sedan. The Versa comes as a sedan or hatchback.

2011 Honda Accord Possibility Of Oil

Concerned about possible oil leaks in one of its popular K series engines, Honda is notifying 1,200 owners to visit their local dealer for an inspection. The affected engine is the 2.4-liter four-cylinder found under the hood of the 2011 Honda Accord (non-V6 models) and 2011 Honda CR-V (all models).

According to a service bulletin the automaker sent to its dealers on December 3, an engine part may have been cast improperly, thereby allowing engine oil to leak.
The cry over recall is slowly sneaking into the camps of Honda as its Accord and CR-V, numbering about 9300 units- 5000 Accords and 4300 CR-Vs, are to be recalled for oil leakage complaint. The company admits that there will manufacturing defect causing engine oil leakage.

Honda communicated this problem and the remedy in its December 3 dated bulletin. Honda’s Accord 2011 model came to the market some four months ago this year while CR-V entered into the market some two months ago. Honda’s notice in this regard is applicable to "Honda Accord" with 2 and 4 doors; and 2 and 4 wheel drive of CR-Vs.

Lexus builds its first-ever supercar with the 2011 Lexus LFA. Known primarily for its highly refined luxury cars, Lexus isn't a car company one would mention in the same breath as Ferrari or Lamborghini. Developed at the famed Nürburgring racetrack in Germany and priced at over 300 large (the latest estimate is $350,000), the Lexus LFA will be constructed chiefly of carbon fiber and weigh a relatively svelte 3,263 pounds.
Equipped with a six-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission, the 2011 Lexus LFA can leap to 60 mph in a claimed 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 202 mph.
Only 500 Lexus LFAs will be produced for worldwide sale, and Lexus will actually lease the cars (with an option to buy) to discourage speculators.
The impossibly anal approach Toyota took when building the Lexus LFA.

First, the engine is located way back in the engine bay and mounts to a 6-speed rear-mounted transaxle through a carbon torque tube. That accounts for the CoG's position front-to-rear, but not vertically. That was achieved by using a world's first counter gear to raise the relative height of the torque tube, allowing the engine to be mounted incredibly low in the car, accounting for the CoG's height.

As a statement of technological ability and performance intent, the "Lexus LFA" firmly establishes Toyota firmly within the upper echelons of sports car manufacturers.

This dramatically different Japanese sports car combines high technology with maximum user-friendliness. The carbon-fiber center tub did save 220 pounds and is four times as rigid as the previous spaceframe design, and it also taught Lexus some valuable lessons with regard to future higher-volume production concepts. To achieve the desired 48/52 percent front/rear weight distribution, the engineers opted for rear-mounted radiators and a transaxle, and they set the front-mounted engine back in the chassis. In the front, the Lexus LFA relies on an aluminum-intensive control-arm suspension and compact springs; low-friction dampers with remote fluid reservoirs; and a tubular antiroll bar. Unlike the race car that we previously sampled [October 2009], the production LFA's cabin is as lavishly equipped and as beautifully executed as any other Lexus. There are only two areas - engine characteristics as well as clutch and gearbox action - where the ultimate Japanese sports car fell somewhat short of our expectations.

According to Kia, the root of the issue comes from the spring intended to keep the pedal in position while driving. Kia’s repair notice states the pedal may be “noisy” and that there is “unsatisfactory… responsiveness while driving.”

Rolls-Royce Sales Soar Globally

Sales of Rolls-Royce vehicles have more than double in the first 10 months of 2010, to in excess of 2,000 units since the brand launched the Ghost, said CEO Torsten Muller-Otovos.
The “baby” Ghost now takes over three/quarters of Rolls-Royce sales. Customers are on average 10 years younger than that of Phantom consumers and 80% of customers are new to the company.

Sales have grown 360% in the U.S and 250% in Europe. Asia-Pacific sales have grown eight-fold, while UK sales soar by 50%. The Rolls-Royce line-up now consist of four models – Phantom, Phantom Drophead Coupé, Phantom Coupé and Ghost, but around 100 customers have bought all four cars.

In the pipeline, the Ghost range will expand to a long-wheelbase, drophead coupé and coupé.

2011 Audi A3/Q7

Audi has revised the A3 for the 2011 model year. The car, which was facelifted in 2008, will see changes to all the variants.

New features on the car include glossy black B-pillars and grille, chrome air intakes, door handles, and side mirrors and a redesigned rear diffuser. Tail-light lenses are tinted on 3dr models.

New exterior colours, like Amethyst Grey, Dakota Grey, Scuba Blue, and Volcano Red will feature. Customers may also choose from two new 17” alloy wheels, and a new 18” alloy wheel design. Inside, the driver will find a redesigned leather wheel and gear lever, black gloss trim elements, aluminium trim inserts, and grey back grounded instruments.

Engines will stay the same. Audi has not yet disclosed when they will take orders on the 2011 Audi A3 and S3.
Audi has announced several mechanical changes for the Q7. For the 2011 model year, the 276bhp 3.6 litre V6 and 345bhp 4.2 litre V8 engines have been replaced by two versions of Audi’s supercharged V6 unit which debuted in the S4.

The lower powered version offers less power than before, at 268bhp, but 40Nm more torque. This powers the Q7 from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds - 0.6-seconds faster than before - and gives it a top speed of 140mph. The more powerful version that takes over from the 4.2 litre engine, delivering 328bhp and 440Nm of torque. This allows the Q7 to reach 62mph from rest 0.5 seconds more quickly than the V8 at 6.9 seconds, and to continue to a top speed of 152mph.

Both versions return the same fuel economy figure of 26.4mpg (10.7 l/100km) and 249g/km of CO2, representing a mpg improvement of 12% over the old V6 and 16% over the V8, and a 40g/km and 55g/km step up respectively.

Also available is an all-new 237bhp 3.0 litre V6 TDI engine which features start-stop technology. The unit returns 38.2mpg (7.4 l/100km) making it 19% more fuel efficient than the previous unit. The engine also powers the Q7 from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds – 0.6-seconds faster than before.

All models benefit from the new 8 speed automatic gearbox which debuted in the new A8. Prices range from £40,135 to £54,055 and the newcomer is available to order now.

As we’ve watched the crossover genre take on a bajillion different permutations of late, it’s refreshing to see a good, old-fashioned station wagon like the new Acura TSX Sport Wagon appear. This is especially true at a time when even the most established wagon-makers continue to withhold or withdraw their best five-doors from the U.S. market.

Then again, we shouldn’t exactly call this a good, old-fashioned station wagon, based as it is on the nimble, handsome Acura TSX (which itself is a fancified version of the European Honda Accord), a car that we at Car and Driver have generally enjoyed in sedan form for years. When it arrives here this summer, the TSX wagon will be offered only in front-wheel-drive form, powered by the TSX sedan’s base, 201-hp four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed paddle-shifted manumatic. It’s not as exciting a combo as, say, a V-6 and a manual, but it’s a setup that will afford greater odds of success.
The rear end features not just a longer roof and thus a taller, more capacious cargo area than a regular trunk, but also three hidden compartments beneath the cargo floor, as well as a removable side panel behind the left rear wheel housing that allows for lateral placement of long items like a set of golf clubs. Otherwise, the interior is pretty much identical to that of the four-door TSX, and will include lots of standard features, such as power leather seats, a sunroof, Bluetooth, USB/iPod connectivity, and Acura’s latest navigation system. And good news for audiophiles: Acura’s superb ELS surround-sound audio also will be offered in the TSX wagon.
To many of us, however, the wagon model simply satisfies our contrarian streak that loves to see something purportedly “domestic” outfitted with super-fat twin tailpipes and muscular haunches. Acura predicts that the sporty-wagon segment will grow 40 percent by 2014. (What, from eight sold each year to 11? Hi-oh!) We hope the forecasters are right, as we’d love to see more slick wagons like this one arrive to satisfy the demand. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we are told to expect it to land in the mid-$30K range, between the four- and six-cylinder TSX sedans.

This gas-electric sedan is being shown for the first time at the 2010 New York auto show, alongside the turbocharged, 274-hp Sonata 2.0T.

A Different Approach

As the company’s first hybrid for the U.S. market, the Sonata will set the tone for Hyundai’s eco-friendly plans, debuting a system it calls Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive. The car may seem late to the gas-electric party, but the delay allowed Hyundai to incorporate lithium-polymer battery technology; it will be the first to market a vehicle using this type of battery formulation, which it claims allows for a lighter, smaller, more durable battery.

The parallel hybrid’s basic ingredients include an Atkinson-cycle version of Hyundai’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder, making 169 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque; a 40-hp, 151-lb-ft electric motor; a 34-kW lithium-polymer battery; and a six-speed automatic transmission. Total system output is 209 hp—which bests that of the hybrid versions of the Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan, and Nissan Altima—and 195 lb-ft. And unlike the others, Hyundai is using a true automatic transmission instead of a CVT, which we welcome simply as a way to mitigate engine drone. The Sonata hybrid is also able to reach speeds of up to 62 mph in all-electric mode, which surpasses the current hybrid electro-speed champion Fusion/Milan hybrids’ Vmax of 47 mph.

Best-in-Class Highway Mileage

Hyundai estimates fuel economy of 37 mpg city/39 highway—the city figure beats all but the Fusion’s 41-mpg rating, and the highway number is the highest in the class. Contributing to efficiency are the vehicle’s relatively low weight—Hyundai claims it’s under 3500 pounds—regenerative braking, and an electric A/C compressor.

As part of the transformation, the hybrid Sonata also gets its own look, both to differentiate it and to improve aerodynamics. Unique head- and taillights sit above more-aerodynamic fascias, there’s a new grille and wheels, as well as a front air dam and aero-friendly side sills. Inside, a 4.2-inch LCD in the gauge cluster provides hybrid system information including drive mode, energy flow, fuel level, battery charge, and fuel-economy numbers. Hyundai has also taken a digital page from Ford’s engaging hybrid-monitoring interface and included what it calls the “Eco Level scoring system.” Instead of receiving green leaves as a reward for efficient driving like in the Fusion/Milan, Sonata drivers are treated to images of a sky, which are shown in eight different colors ranging form gray (bad) to blue (good).

Hybrid Sonatas will be available later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect it to come in below the Fusion hybrid’s $28K sticker.

Opel Ampera and The Voltec Platform

A key aspect to General Motor's survival is what is now being called its Voltec platform - cars which are built on the same platform underpinning the Chevrolet Volt, an electric car scheduled to be introduced before the end of 2010. Besides the Chevrolet Volt, GM has been showcasing the Cadillac Converj concept, a luxury coupe version of the Volt as well as the Opel Ampera, a European counterpart to the Volt. Together, these three cars will play a prime role in distinguishing the direction General Motors will be going for the next decade or longer.

Opel Ampera and The Voltec Platform

Each of the three models will be "powered" by an electric lithium-ion battery, a rechargeable powerplant with an all-electric range of forty miles. Beyond that, a small gas engine will kick in and, in the case of the Chevrolet Volt, that engine will be the same 1.4L I4 motor as the one that will move the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze, a gasoline model. GM hasn't said which engines will be in the Ampera or the Converj, but the 1.4L may provide just enough power to move those two models as well.

Once the all electric phase has ended, the engine should extend the car's range by at least another 250 miles, depending on the size of the gas tank installed. A regenerative braking system will partially recharge the battery, but a complete recharge of Voltec platform vehicles will take several hours. With a 110 volt outlet, a recharge should take six to eight hours to accomplish; but with a 220 volt outlet full recharging should be realized in four hours or less.

220 voltage outlets are used across Europe, while 110 volts is used in North America. Likely, dedicated power stations - whether in the home or on the road - will feature the higher voltage.

As far as body style goes, the Ampera will be a five door hatchback, a model that is highly desirable in Europe, but one that hasn't has much success in North America. The Chevrolet Volt will be a four door sedan while the Cadillac Converj is a sleek, two door coupe. GM is looking at developing other body styles for its many divisions including a crossover, sport/utility vehicle and perhaps a roadster. The latter model could replace the Cadillac XLR which is being retired this year.

Getting a glimpse of the Opel Ampera will have to wait until March when the Geneva Auto Show gets going. It is at that very event Opel is expected to roll out its own Voltec platform car, a model that General Motors hopes will be as well received as the Chevrolet Volt.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia

Loris Bicocchi's tan, cherubic face leers at me from the passenger seat, his eyes wide behind Prada shades. It is the most animated I've seen my oh-so-cool Italian co-pilote since our drive began.

"VOW! From this seat, it just feels... so different. So AMAZING!"

And to think, all I had to do was pass a slow-moving farm truck in the most modest way possible. Rather than toggling the lever from Drive to Sport, or clicking the downshift paddle back in a come-hither motion, I overtake the truck the old-fashioned way: by burying my right foot.

For half a beat, nothing happens. Then there is an explosive lurch from the hindquarters, as the 20-inch tall, 365 rears engage in a brief, but victorious, battle for traction. All four wheels hook, leaving our stomachs and the Spanish countryside behind us in a hot wake of exhaust gas. I lift my foot and the wastegates reply with a full-bodied belch as we coast back down to a high-double-digit cruising speed.

Finally, after almost four years, we've driven the 2011 Chevrolet Volt in a variety of conditions, talked over our impressions, and reached a conclusion: Yes, the 2011 Volt electric car is a real car.

It may be propelled by electricity. It may plug into a wall socket or a special garage recharger to "refuel." But the new and remarkable compact hatchback also rides and drives quietly, seats four comfortably, and performs briskly.

The fact that it also has a revolutionary powertrain that operates as an electric car or a plug-in hybrid--and is the first Chevrolet you can plug into a wall to recharge--could almost be an afterthought. It's that well executed.

The sole fly in the ointment is the inevitably high early adopter price: $41,000. New auto technology always costs a lot when it first hits the market, and the Volt's lithium-ion battery pack all by itself likely costs half the price of a new 2011 Chevy Cruze subcompact.

Tuning firm, TOPCAR, is slowly becoming a major player in the aftermarket industry for their works with a number of Porsche, BMW, and Bentley models they have worked on in the past 6 years.
Recently, the Russian aftermarket company announced that they were in the process of presenting a new aerodynamic body kit for the Porsche Cayenne Vantage GTR 2, using the Cayenne 2 model as its base.

With the new body kit, TOPCAR remodeled the Porsche SUV by adding a bevy of items, including a front spoiler bumper, a new bonnet, wide fenders, a rear spoiler bumper, and a diffuser, thereby turning it into a menacing piece of Stuttgart savagery. Likewise, all these parts were carefully made using high-grade items like carbon Kevlar and carbon fiber. On top of that, an engine upgrade is also still in the works, one that will see the Porsche Cayenne receive a major bump in power from 550 horsepower to 750 horsepower. Full details behind the improvement on the powertrain have yet to be released so we’re going to hold off on that end.

In the meantime, Top Car is already preparing the first seven models for its first customers with a total of only 50 units being made to ensure exclusivity for all of its prospective owners.

Performance

The need for high-performance stability, handling ability and low kerb weight defined the DBS's form and construction. Accordingly, the DBS becomes the first production Aston Martin to make extensive use of ultra-light carbon-fiber body panels. High levels of performance and control are delivered by the combination of inherent light weight, near-perfect weight distribution, a supremely powerful and flexible V12 engine, and a performance-honed six-speed transmission, together with new carbon ceramic brakes and an adaptive damper controlled suspension system.

At the heart of the DBS is a 6.0-liter V12 engine. As with all current Aston Martins, it is hand-assembled at Aston Martin's dedicated engine facility in Cologne, Germany. The classic 6.0-liter V12 features a number of power-increasing enhancements. These include a 'by-pass' engine air intake port that opens above 5500 rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. Combined with a compression ratio of 10.9:1, the result of these enhancements is prodigious power and torque: the DBS delivers 510 bhp at 6500 rpm. The 3.71:1 final-drive ratio ensures that the additional power is usable, enhancing in-gear acceleration in particular.

Design

The DBS is manufactured using the finest materials, with a combination of hand-finishing and pioneering high-technology processes. From the exceptional quality of the design and finish to the advanced production techniques employed to save weight and create strength, the DBS is both a technological masterpiece and a powerful visual and tactile experience, inside and out.

The external detailing reflects the power and dynamic abilities of the DBS, with revised inlets and enlarged grilles that deliver more air into the engine and increase its cooling capacity. Subtle design details include a new five-bar design for the polished alloy main grille, as well as two additional vents in the enlarged power bulge on the carbon-fiber bonnet. Interior

The interior of the DBS represents the epitome of Aston Martin's commitment to using materials honestly, without disguise or embellishment. Lightweight materials are used throughout to save weight; door pulls are made from carbon-fiber, for example, and the carpet has been woven with lighter fibers to save weight. Special semi-aniline leather is used throughout the cabin, saving weight as well as giving a soft feel and distinctive aroma.

As an option the DBS may be equipped with specially developed lightweight seats (outside North America). These feature a carbon-fiber and Kevlar composite structure and are manufactured by a supplier to the motorsport and aviation industries before being returned to Aston Martin's Gaydon factory for hand-trimming. The structure is created by sandwiching a layer of Kevlar between two layers of carbon-fiber with the outer finish left exposed on the seat backs, lacquered to create a durable and attractive finish.

The start sequence of the DBS is augmented by an all-new centre console design with a cast metal surround, crisp typography and new graphics. The new console has a traditional dial-face clock at the centre, flanked by two rotary controls for the heating and air-conditioning system, fashioned from solid, turned aluminum.

Deliveries of the DBS are expected to commence during quarter one 2008, with prices to be confirmed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Vehicle Highlights

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro marks the return of this General Motors division's iconic "pony car." It bows as a 2-door coupe. A 2-door convertible version is due in early calendar 2011. The 2010 Camaro shares some of its basic design with the now-discontinued Pontiac G8 large sedan. It wears body styling inspired by the 1969 Camaro. Mazda Hakaze

The Hakaze is the third and final installment in Mazda's series of nature-inspired, hard-to-pronounce concepts for the 2007 auto-show season; the Nagare and the Ryuga debuted in L.A. and Detroit, respectively. As with those cars, Mazda said it's continuing the theme of flow and movement in this all-wheel-drive hatchback.
This time around, Mazda has chosen kite surfing as its muse. Everything from the exterior lines and wetsuit-like upholstery to the golden shimmery exterior is supposed to evoke images of hitching your surfboard to a kite off Hawaii's glistening shores. (What? You've never been kite surfing?)
According to Mazda, the Hakaze has approximately the same proportions as the Mazda3, but its higher hip point and wider stance would make it more at home in the crossover SUV segment. The Hakaze can be equipped with either a gas or diesel engine. The concept has a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive to maintain traction on sand.
The driver's seat features a wraparound cockpit design to give the car a sportier feel, and the rear two-thirds of the glass roof are removable to make it more roadster-like. All seats, including the rear ones, are electronically adjustable to expand the storage area in the hatchback. Additionally, the Hakaze offers a wireless internet connection and a digital camera that can film the road or the car's interior.

KTM X-Bow

Austrian motorcycle builder KTM first revealed its new X-Bow (crossbow) roadster in 2007, but sales didn't begin until 2008. The 1500-pound car has a four-cylinder Audi engine offering 237 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 228 pound-feet of torque between 2200 and 4000 rpm. Audi reportedly considered selling a version of the X-Bow under its own brand, but later dropped the idea.

KTM is expected to add the option for an even more powerful 300 horsepower engine in the future. A choice of either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox is offered. KTM says the X-Bow will hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. A top speed of 180 mph is said to be possible. The X-Bow has no windshield, and instead will come with specially designed helmets, intended to offer shelter from the elements rather than full crash protection. KTM originally intended to build 500 X-Bows annually but has already received orders for over 1,000 examples. Pricing starts around $55,000 in the United States. Between the X-Bow and the Ariel Atom, it appears as though more companies are attempting to offer supercar performance at a more main-stream price. While the new entrants don't offer the luxury or prestige of more expensive sports car, they do rival their performance numbers. Although it remains to be seen if the new breed of ultra-light and affordable sports cars can sustain their popularity, the news of KTM's expansion seems to be good news for the segment.

Jaguar C-XF Concept

Embargo breaking notwithstanding, there is still lots of information to share on the C-XF Concept that Jaguar will officially debut at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The design finally breaks Jaguar away from the ball and chain of its own traditions with a decidedly un-retro shape that still manages to exude a feline quality. This cat is more like a lion, however, thanks to a 4.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 420 hp and 368 ft-lbs. of torque driving the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The C-XF also showcases some new technology, including something called JaguarSense that allows certain functions in the cockpit to be activated with a gesture of the hand instead of the push of a button. The interior also employs advanced lighting that bathes the cabin in an electric blue when the vehicle is started. Now, Jaguar's design director Ian Callum and his team want us to know that we are not staring at the next S-Type sedan, though the C-XF does display the brand's new design direction going forward.

January 3, 2007 – The all-new Jaguar C-XF concept car, a stunning four-door sedan that blends dynamic, modern features with classic, heritage cues, will make its debut at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mich. Headed by Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum and Head of Advanced Design Julian Thomson, the concept was designed by the same team that produced the award-winning 2007 Jaguar XK Coupe and Convertible. The team looked to create a vehicle that presents a confident statement of design purity. In doing so, the C-XF possesses a sense of latent power through a look that is dynamic and athletic.

JaguarSense, a prototype technology which employs motion detecting sensors to activate certain vehicle features, reacts to the sweep of a hand, making it advance yet intuitive. TOYOTA HYBIRD CONCEPT CAR

Toyota wants teenage boys to daydream about hybrids, apparently.

The FT-HS hybrid sports concept car will be premiered on January 7 at the North American International Auto Show, and we can expect 50:50 weight distribution and a 400+ horsepower monster with a drivetrain very similar to the Lexus GS 450h: a 3.5 liter V6 coupled to Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) system (which could mean SULEV emissions, but no word on fuel economy yet). This could be the next Supra.

What is interesting is not the direct impact of this car on the environment, though we can expect it to be better than the "traditional" V8 gasoline-powered sports cars it will compete against (a lesser evil). No, the interesting thing is the "halo" effect it could have, making hybrids cool and desirable to a new public. Even if they never end up buying that particular model, they'll notice the technology and associate it with something they want instead of something they don't.

Of course, we would be a lot happier if Toyota made a less-powerful but more fuel efficient version of it, maybe even a plug-in hybrid, diesel-hybrid or all-electric version.

And while they're at it, why not make the regular hybrid version come by default with the $30 sensor that would allow it to be flex fuel (run on an 85/15 mix of ethanol/gasoline).

And while the concept makes extensive use of pricy materials like carbon fiber and aluminum, the FT-HS is expected to portend a toned-down production variant. A practice taken directly from racing car design, the main advantages of inboard suspension are a reduction in unsprung weight and the ability to package the suspension components more effectively.

The dampers are fully adjustable and feature advanced Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) technology; a world-first for a road car application. These special valves are state-of-the-art even at the highest levels of motorsport, and use high-precision machined components to enable the shock-absorbing characteristics of the damper to be changed without having to remove them from the car, as is the norm.

Underlining the truly bespoke nature of the Aston Martin One-77, once delivered to its owner, the car’s suspension characteristics will be precisely set-up by Aston Martin engineers to suit their exact requirements, from settings suitable for the ultimate long-distance GT, to a machine capable of conquering the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

While functionality and efficiency are paramount in the design and construction of the Aston Martin One-77, so too is aesthetic beauty. To this end every single component has been crafted from the finest materials with absolute attention to detail. Of course the irony is that the vast majority of these exquisite components will be hidden from view in the finished car, yet each and every piece is a work of art in its own right. Naturally, such a spectacular chassis demands – and gets – an equally exceptional drivetrain. It comes in the form of an immensely potent 7.3-litre, naturally aspirated V12 engine. Thanks to the adoption of a dry-sump oil system the engine is mounted 100mm lower than in any previous V12-engined Aston Martin road car, which helps keep the Aston Martin One-77’s centre-of-gravity as low as possible. To further aid agility and endow the Aston Martin One-77 with progressive handling and stable, predictable on-limit behaviour, the engine is also mounted 257mm aft relative to the front wheel centreline. In so doing the front-mid-engined layout shared by all of Aston Martin’s current road car range has been taken to a new level.

The Aston Martin One-77’s magnificent power unit is an extreme evolution of the 6.0-litre V12 engines fitted to the Aston Martin DBS, DB9 and new V12 Vantage models. Like the collaboration with MTC for the build of the chassis, Aston Martin has chosen a world-leading partner with which to develop the motor: legendary engine builders, Cosworth. It has proved to be the perfect collaboration, as Chris Porritt explains.

“Our brief to the engine team was for them to take the 6.0-litre V12 as far as it could go, both in terms of output and weight reduction. The targets were a power output of no less than 700bhp with a 10 per cent reduction in engine mass. Incredibly, the Aston Martin and Cosworth engineers achieved a mass reduction of some 25 per cent, and although we’ve yet to complete the final engine calibration work, I’m confident we’ll see in excess of 700bhp. It’s an awesome accomplishment, but one that’s typical of the One-77 project, for it has consistently brought out the very best in everyone involved.”

Wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres (255/35 ZR20 front, 335/30 ZR20 rear) developed specifically for the Aston Martin One-77, all 700+bhp is transmitted to the road through the rear wheels via a new six-speed gearbox. Controlled via column-mounted paddles behind the steering wheel, this robotised sequential manual is a new generation of Aston Martin’s familiar transmission. Though it is made specifically for the Aston Martin One-77 and features specially strengthened internals to cope with the tremendous power and torque, the lessons learned in its development will ultimately find their way into the company’s series production models.

It’s a mark of the inherent capabilities of Aston Martin’s acclaimed lightweight Carbon Ceramic Matrix brake technology that it has been used as the basis for the Aston Martin One-77’s braking system. The internals of the callipers have been re-engineered to transmit less heat from the brake pads into the brake fluid, while the discs themselves have been developed to ensure the maximum possible contact area between the face of the disc and the brake pads for improved stopping power. Due to the Aston Martin One-77’s increased performance, special attention has also been paid to brake cooling, as the brakes have less time to cool between bursts of acceleration.

With a projected weight of 1,500kg the Aston Martin One-77 will occupy the very highest echelons of road car performance. Top speed is confidently predicted to be in excess of 200mph, with a 0-60mph time in approximately 3.5sec. Perhaps more importantly, thanks to the purity of a front-engined, rear-drive layout, the responsiveness and immense tractability of a naturally aspirated V12 and the low mass, high-rigidity properties of a carbon fibre chassis, the Aston Martin One-77 promises a driving experience of unrivalled intensity and excitement while representing the world’s most desirable automotive art form.
